More Colorado Springs

This is a great town. I don't know why I haven't been here before. Garden of the Gods is a beautiful city park. The land was donated to the city in 1909 with the condition that it remain free.

Paved paths wind among the different formations.

Many of them are named. Can you see the Kissing Camels here?

Cathedral Spires is one of the most spectacular.

Also in Colorado Springs is the US Air Force Academy. There are lots of planes on the campus, the the biggest is this B-52 bomber. With a wing span of 185 feet, the B-52 was first placed in service in 1952.

But the highlight of the Air Force Academy is the Cadet Chapel.

The inside is beautiful, and you're allowed to take pictures! I loved the way the clouds looked through the windows.

There's a huge organ in the rear.

And several other chapels on other floors. This is the Roman Catholic chapel, and there are also Jewish and Buddhist ones.

Here it is from a different angle, along with some cute cadets.

Also on the campus they were having parachute practice. We saw one parachute not open, but it was ditched and the reserve chute deployed.

There was a lot more to see and do, but I'll have to save it for next time.

  1. Beautiful photos. When we lived in Denver, mom wanted to go to Colorado Springs to live if we would have stayed in Colorado.

  2. Diane... We were at the Garden of the Gods so many years ago... You have made me want to go back there... I think on our way to Alaska next summer we pass through there and I will be sure to stop and visit again... Thanks for the memories... The Air Force Base was awesome... My husband was in the AF and he would really like that too... Have fun & safe travels!
