Grand Prismatic Spring

Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone is the largest hot spring in North America, and the 3rd largest in the world.

If you go to the view point in Midway Geyser Basin, this is the what you see. It's pretty, but ---

See those people on that rock back there on the hill? That is where the good view is. A friend told me about this many years ago, and I am going to find it.

To get there, you go to the Fairy Falls trailhead down the road, walk 1/2 to 3/4 mile, and then you start to see many trails going up the hill. This is the 2nd one, and I think the best. You go up and slightly right, and you end up on the rock.

What a difference! BUT, still not perfect. We came too early in the morning when the air is cool and there is too much steam coming off the spring.

So, we went back another day in the afternoon. WOW!!!

Gorgeous colors flowing from the spring.

We even got a touristy picture.

And we saw more wildlife later. Who is this crazy person?

Oh, stop yawning. I know - just another crazy tourist...

On another note, I really want one of these license plates! They are unreadable!

  1. First one to comment, I don't think I've ever had that honor! Your pics brought back awesome memories of our trip to Yellowstone, and that tip about the view from the hill will be squirreled away for our next trip! Great tourist pic, I'd be framing that one and hanging it in the RV. Those crazy people are all over the place in Yellowstone, we chastised a few of them ourselves.

  3. Is that a legal trail to the top of the hill? Beautiful!

  4. It's not an official trail, but there are no signs saying it's illegal. They should make an official trail and overlook, then there wouldn't be so many trails on the hill.

  5. That spring is beautiful. I thought it was pretty with the steam, too, but much better without.

You guys look pretty close to that - what is it - a bison? He is HUGE. :)

  6. Who is going to tell that Bison he's on an illegal trail? Not me, for sure. He can go anywhere he wants. :cD
